Teaching International Economics:
A Program for High School Teachers

3 PM - 6:30 PM
This workshop will introduce teachers to methods and materials for teaching international economics. We will cover relevant concepts in the California History-Social Science Content Standards, the Voluntary National Standards in Economics, and other current issues.
Topics will include: globalization, immigration, balance of payments, trade and trade deficits, world poverty, exchange rates, outsourcing, the role of international agencies (IMF, WTO, WHO, UN, World Bank), and transition economies (focus on Russia.)
Lesson plans and background materials will be demonstrated and distributed. One session will be devoted to a presentation of websites useful for teaching international economics at the high school level.
STIPENDS: Teachers will receive a $200 stipend for attendance and participation.
COURSE CREDIT: One (quarter) unit of post-baccalaureate credit in economics is available for $44.00 (payable at the first class session.)
WHERE: California State University, East Bay, Hayward Hills Campus, in the Biella Room in the library. Directions, parking information, and maps are available at www.csuhayward.edu/campus_maps/ (Plan to park in a metered lot.)
WHEN: Tuesday June 28, Wednesday June 29, and Thursday June 30, 2005 from 3 PM - 6:30 PM each day. Refreshments will be served.
INSTRUCTORS: Dr. Jane Lopus, Professor of Economics at CSUEB, Dr. Lynn Paringer, Professor of Economics at CSUEB, and Dr. Gary Wishniewsky, Director of International Programs at CSUEB.
REGISTRATION: (There is a $20 registration fee, payable to CSUEB-CEE.)
